WELCOME TO THE EBENEZER MILE!

RESULTS OF THE 2012 SWIM
Unfortunately the low mist on the day of the swim prevented the race referee from allowing the various races to start on time. Eventually a 500m swim was held 'in the bay', swimmers circling twice around the lifesavers on their boards. Later in the morning it was deemed safe enough to alter the course, keeping it much closer in, and again swimming the circuit twice. However this distance was only about 1400m, not just over 1600m as a mile normally would be, and so no 'official' results could be obtained for comparison with other years. For the third year in a row Malesela Molepo was the very clear winner though... here is a swimmer to watch! A .pdf of the results can be found here.
PLEASE JOIN US FOR THE 2012 EBENEZER MILE
The Rotary Club of Haenertsburg is very proud to present the ever popular annual Ebenezer Mile Swim, taking place on Sunday 18th March 2012 at the Mountain Yacht Club at Ebenezer Dam, Magoebaskloof. The event is sanctioned by Swimming South Africa. The day promises to be great fun for competitors and spectators alike.
This year there are three main events of a mile (1609 meters), a race of 3000m and a Short Course Development Swim of 500 m. The 3000m is the qualification event for the SA National "B" championship. The 3000m race starts at 8am. Then at 10am, the Mile race for all females competitors takes place, with three age categories swimming together - under 13 years, 14-30s, and 31 years and older. The men’s event starts at 11.30 - again the three age categories will swim the course together. Cost of entries for the Mile and 3000m races is R100 per event on-line (see details below) Manual entries (entry forms are being distributed) and entries registered on the day of the Swim will cost R125 per event. Race timing will be handled with electronic timing chips worn by all competitors.
Registration for the 500m Short Course Development Swim at R75 per entry can also be done at www.entrytime.com Manual entry and entry on the day will be R125 like the other races. The race will start at 12h30 and no times or places will be taken. This is an ideal swim for beginners.
The dam is over 100% full at this stage (end January), and the water is always clear, sparkling and bilharzia free! As always there are medals, cash and product prizes and a super carnival atmosphere - food stalls, a bar and more to be enjoyed by the whole family. Commemorative T-shirts will be on sale on the day. Prize giving is at 13h00.
Contact www.entrytime.com for entries. You can go directly to the entry page at http://www.entrytime.com/index.asp?GoTo=EventInfo&EventID=3377 Please note: As each participant will be required on the day to sign the endemnity which appears on the printed entry form, you can speed things up by downloading the form from the 'How to enter' page and arriving with the details already completed. It will be greatly appreciated! You will also find a map showing you how to get to the venue there.

NEWSFLASH
R20 ENTRANCE FEE FOR TRAINING
AT THE MOUNTAIN YACHT CLUB FOR THE EB
MILE
The following letter was recently sent out by the Mountain Yacht Club (MYC), who provide
the venue for the Eb Mile, regarding people wishing to train at MYC during the six
weeks ending the Friday before the race.
Good day Members &
Friends of MYC
With the Ebenezer Mile
big swim coming up shortly, there's certainly plenty of water to have it in..!
As usual at this time
of year, MYC sees a number of people coming in to the Club grounds, wanting to
practise for the Mile Swim. A great many
of these visitors are not Club members, nor guests of members. Most swimmers
enjoy the use of our facilities.
Due to MYC's ever
increasing over-heads, in terms of electricity and water costs, plus
maintenance, we feel it is only fair to our membership, to charge a small fee
of R20.00 per non-member to assist with these costs. This dispensation of the
Member Only rule, shall only be granted for the 6 week period leading up to the
Ebenezer Mile, which we believe is fair to all.
We would be most
grateful to MYC members, who live in the area, and have acquaintances who wish
to make use of our facilities, advise them that the R20.00 admission rule is
now in force.
Finally, MYC does not
in any way, guarantee or take responsibility for the safety of any person
swimming, and would strongly recommend that swimmers be accompanied by craft
displaying a red flag, clearly visible to pleasure boats.
Should any member wish
to comment on this matter, please do not hesitate to respond.
Thank-you
MYC
